Ethereum will cease its support for the Holesky testnet by September 2025 because of problems related to validator exits and network reliability. The new Hoodi test network will replace it for testing the Pectra upgrade, which is set to activate on March 26, 2025. This signifies a significant change in the operation of Ethereum’s test networks. Holesky commenced in September 2023 and has proven to be highly beneficial for testing staking, establishing infrastructure, and enhancing the Ethereum network. Currently, Ethereum developers are focusing on different test networks. It is common to deactivate test networks. Ethereum has successfully achieved this with its testnets: Kiln, Ropsten, Rinkeby, and Goerli, ensuring that the testing environment remains functional. Holesky is being closed due to issues discovered during the testing of the Pectra upgrade. These challenges highlighted vulnerabilities regarding the exit process for validators and the overall stability of the network. The Ethereum Foundation addressed these concerns in a blog entry published on Tuesday. Reports indicate that the line for validators departing Holesky is congested, and it may take nearly a year for all validators to completely leave.
