In 2018, Stephen Tse established Harmony with the goal of creating a quick, safe, and decentralized blockchain that would facilitate decentralized applications. Despite encountering significant hurdles such as a $100 million hack and internal disputes, Stephen remains committed to driving innovation and expanding the community. Originally from Hong Kong, Stephen Tse is the forward-thinking founder of Harmony. In 1997, his family relocated to Vancouver, Canada. Stephen showed a keen interest in mathematics and programming languages from a young age. Following a double major in computer science and mathematics, he earned a Ph.D. in security protocols at the University of Pennsylvania. His journey in innovation has taken him from Microsoft to Apple. After completing his education, Stephen began his career as a researcher at Microsoft Research. He then began his role at Google as a senior infrastructure engineer, contributing to large-scale projects that impacted hundreds of millions of users. Not satisfied with just that, Stephen also took on a position at Apple as a principal engineer focusing on search ranking. During this period, he founded Spotsetter, a mobile search engine firm that was later acquired by Apple. Additionally, he made a daring move into the blockchain space with Harmony.
