Ripple has teamed up with WËIA to initiate a pilot program aimed at enhancing traceability on the XRP Ledger in Colombia.

Ripple has joined forces with local organizations to evaluate blockchain traceability and credit solutions for 103 farmers in Colombia. The farmers employ QR codes to monitor their panela crops, engage in transparent sales, and settle loans post-harvest. This initiative, in collaboration with Colombian agri-tech firm WËIA and Mercy Corps Ventures’ investment division, aims to transform agricultural finance and traceability for small-scale farmers in the country through a six-month pilot program. This project utilizes the XRP Ledger and aims to benefit 300 farmers by introducing a blockchain-driven supply chain model that addresses persistent issues in agriculture. Mercy Corps Ventures is a prominent partner in this initiative. The project has a significant gender representation, with 46% of the farmers being women, which is nearly twice the national average of 26% in Colombia. The farmers taking part in the pilot project are expected to produce about 240 tonnes of panela each month. Unrefined cane sugar is a significant agricultural product in Colombia.
