## Lomond School Embraces Bitcoin for Tuition Payments
Lomond School, a private institution in Scotland, has made an exciting announcement: starting in Autumn 2025, tuition fees can be paid using Bitcoin, making it the first private school in the UK to accept cryptocurrency payments. The headmaster shared this news at a recent crypto event, suggesting that other schools might follow their lead, allowing parents to opt for crypto payments instead of traditional bank transfers. This change comes in response to requests from parents living abroad who wish to avoid the often costly and cumbersome currency exchange fees. The headmaster also noted that overseas students, particularly those who are tech-savvy and familiar with digital assets, may find this option appealing.
“For generations,” stated Claire Chisholm, the headmaster of Lomond, “this school has nurtured inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and open-minded risk-takers. We were the first boarding school in Scotland to house boys and girls under the same roof. Recently, we transitioned from the Scottish Government’s SQA curriculum to the International Baccalaureate, a globally recognized qualification that is highly regarded by universities and employers worldwide.”
Lomond School plans to roll out its Bitcoin initiative in phases, with the intention of expanding its use of cryptocurrency in future projects. Initially, parents will be able to pay with Bitcoin, which will then be converted to Great British Pounds (GBP) to mitigate price volatility. This approach ensures that their inaugural crypto project remains stable and can efficiently manage payments from parents with minimal hassle. Two exchanges, CoinCorner and Musquet, both approved by the FCA, will facilitate the Bitcoin transactions. The coins will be directly converted into GBP, thus avoiding crypto volatility and complying with UK regulations that require authorized platforms to handle payments.
Handling transactions directly could lead to additional regulatory requirements for the private school, especially as the UK strengthens its rules on online payments to protect consumers from fraud. Chisholm chose the Cheatcode Bitcoin conference in Bedford to unveil this news, where former Prime Minister Liz Truss is set to speak on ‘saving the West,’ and the Winklevoss twins will discuss the Premier League.
