The CEO of Solana Labs, Anatoly Yakovenko, is currently facing criticism related to the firm’s latest marketing campaign. Following several days of silence, the CEO finally shared his perspective on the matter. Yakovenko has distanced himself from the contentious Solana advertisement. On the X platform, he voiced his dissatisfaction with the controversial Solana ad campaign. “The advertisement was poor, and it’s still troubling me deeply,” remarked the CEO of Solana. He mentioned that he initially didn’t pay much attention to the campaign, admitting, “I regret not addressing it for what it truly is—cruel and targeting a vulnerable group,” Yakovenko said. He also expressed appreciation for the developers and artists within the ecosystem who spoke out about the campaign both publicly and privately. Yakovenko pledged to leverage his influence and role to support the Solana Foundation in maintaining its goals of decentralization, open-source development, and software innovation. In a reversal, Solana’s official X account shared the contentious advertisement video on March 18. The video ad is named “America Is Back—It’s Time to Move Forward.” The advertisement, lasting two and a half minutes, was designed to advertise the Solana Accelerate Conference and featured a man portraying an American during a therapy session. The person told the therapist he was contemplating “innovation,” particularly in areas like blockchain and cryptocurrency. In reply, the therapist suggested he engage in something more constructive, such as developing a new gender. The therapist recommended that the man focus on pronouns.
