**Exciting New Features in XRP Ledger’s 2.4.0 Update: Mutable NFTs, Compliance Tools, and More!**
The XRP Ledger has just rolled out version 2.4.0 of its core software, rippled, as shared by RippleX. This latest update brings a host of protocol changes, functional enhancements, and bug fixes designed to improve the network’s performance. Among the highlights are five new protocol amendments that are now up for voting by validators.
**What’s New in the Protocol?**
The amendments propose some intriguing changes. One of the standout features is DynamicNFT (XLS-46), which allows non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to be modified after they’ve been created, making it possible to update their metadata. Another exciting addition is PermissionedDomains (XLS-80), which introduces compliance tools that restrict access to certain functions on the ledger. Additionally, DeepFreeze (XLS-77) empowers asset issuers to block transfers on accounts that have been frozen.
But that’s not all! Two more amendments, fixFrozenLPTokenTransfer and fixInvalidTxFlags, focus on improving liquidity pool token transfers and validating transaction flags. For these changes to take effect, validators need to reach over 80% consensus during a two-week voting period.
**Functional Enhancements**
This update also introduces a simulated transaction API, allowing developers to test outcomes without executing real transactions. It now supports specifying multi-purpose tokens (MPTs) in asset definitions and features a new XRPL Foundation subdomain to help manage network lists. On the security front, there are stricter requirements for validator lists, ensuring that multiple publishers agree on which nodes are trusted.
**Bug Fixes and Improvements**
Version 2.4.0 addresses various technical issues across the board. Build errors on Windows with Visual Studio 2022 have been resolved, along with inaccuracies in tracking validator votes for amendments. A new script for analyzing code dependencies now ignores single-line comments, and a pesky double-charging fee error has been fixed. Additionally, improvements have been made to debug logs for amendment votes and the stability of MacOS unit tests.
As the amendments enter their two-week voting period, if approved, they will change how NFTs, compliance controls, and asset freezes function on the XRP Ledger. This update is a significant step toward aligning the network’s infrastructure with evolving use cases while tackling operational inconsistencies. Developers are encouraged to upgrade to version 2.4.0 to take advantage of these new features and ensure compatibility.
