Solana enters September with several indicators pointing to growing activity across its ecosystem. The network reported $143 million in application revenue during August, while non-vote transactions reached a record 5.2 billion. Together, the figures show that Solana’s activity is increasingly being driven by applications and users rather than simply token speculation.

The timing is important because September has already brought a new focus on artificial intelligence. Solana’s Payment Channels are now live, allowing AI agents to authorize spending once and settle multiple payments later. The system is designed for high-frequency transactions where requiring a separate on-chain settlement for every small payment would create unnecessary friction.

Solana says its Payment Channels achieved a benchmark of more than 1 million payments per second across 100,000 wallets. This is a benchmark rather than a claim that the public blockchain currently processes 1 million payments per second, but it demonstrates the architecture’s intended use for machine-to-machine commerce. Alibaba Cloud is already a launch partner, with API endpoints available for payment through the system.

Solana’s Expanding Application Economy

The August revenue figure provides another important measure of ecosystem health. DeFiLlama data cited by industry reports puts Solana’s application revenue at about $143.23 million, giving it a 38.1% share of tracked application revenue across blockchains for the month. The result placed Solana ahead of networks including Hyperliquid, Ethereum and BNB Chain.

Transaction activity was equally notable. Solana processed 5.2 billion non-vote transactions in August, a metric that excludes validator-related vote transactions and offers a clearer view of application and user activity. The network also reported a record 216 million non-vote transactions in a single day during the month.

The ecosystem is expanding beyond decentralized finance as well. Solana’s August roundup highlighted more than $4 billion in real-world assets held across roughly 350,000 addresses, while tokenized equities and investment products continued to expand. Securitize and Neuberger Berman, for example, launched the HINC tokenized high-income fund on Solana.

Traditional brands are also appearing in the ecosystem. SHEIN launched on Solana through xStocks around its Hong Kong listing, while OpenSea expanded its marketplace to include Solana NFTs. These developments give the network exposure to users and markets outside its traditional crypto-native audience.

What It Means for Solana and SOL

The growing use of Solana for AI payments could become one of the more important narratives for SOL over the longer term. Autonomous agents require infrastructure capable of handling frequent, low-value payments without forcing humans to approve every transaction. Solana’s low fees and fast settlement make it a natural candidate for this emerging use case, although adoption remains at an early stage.

The network is also gaining ground in x402 payments. Solana’s share of x402 transactions reached 81% in August according to the figures highlighted by the Solana ecosystem, suggesting that the network has become an important venue for machine-oriented payment activity. The significance will depend on whether these transactions develop into sustained economic demand rather than primarily experimental usage.

Meanwhile, tokenized assets provide another potential growth avenue. Solana’s expanding RWA market includes funds, equities, private credit and commodities, creating additional reasons for financial institutions and investors to use the network. The combination of tokenized assets and high-throughput payments gives Solana a broader proposition than a network focused only on trading.

For SOL investors, however, strong network statistics do not automatically translate into a higher token price. Application revenue can grow while SOL remains under pressure from broader market conditions, valuation concerns or changes in speculative demand. The key question is whether increasing network usage eventually produces durable demand for SOL itself.

The next stage will therefore be about conversion from activity into sustained economic value. AI agents need to move from demonstrations to regular commerce, tokenized assets need real adoption, and consumer applications need to retain users. If those trends continue, Solana’s infrastructure could become increasingly important across several parts of the digital economy.

For now, the August numbers and September launches give the Solana community several developments to monitor. Record transaction activity, $143 million in monthly application revenue, expanding tokenized assets and new payment infrastructure point to an ecosystem that continues to diversify. That does not guarantee a SOL rally, but it strengthens the fundamental case for watching Solana as the network moves deeper into AI, payments and tokenized finance.
