Ethereum Foundation ETH Sale Speculation Returns After $11.13M Kraken Deposit

Ethereum Foundation-Linked Wallets Send 4,393 ETH Worth $11.13 Million to Kraken

Two wallets historically linked to the Ethereum Foundation have reportedly transferred 4,393 ETH, valued at approximately $11.13 million, to the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange. The transaction has renewed speculation over whether the foundation is preparing to sell part of its Ether holdings as the market watches large on-chain movements.

Blockchain analyst EmberCN flagged the transfer, drawing attention to a wallet with a long history of moving ETH to Kraken. Neither the Ethereum Foundation nor Kraken has publicly confirmed the purpose of the latest transaction, leaving the market without a definitive explanation.

An exchange deposit does not automatically mean a sale has taken place. The funds could be sold, held on the exchange, or moved for another operational reason. Without confirmation or further transaction evidence, the latest transfer should be treated as a potential selling signal rather than proof of an executed sale.

Ethereum Foundation-Linked Wallets Have a Long Kraken Transfer History

According to EmberCN, the wallet involved in the latest movement received 59,751 ETH from an Ethereum Foundation wallet approximately ten years ago. Since then, it has reportedly transferred a cumulative 49,751 ETH to Kraken in multiple batches, at an average price of around $658 per ETH.

Based on those figures, approximately 10,000 ETH from the original allocation has not been transferred to Kraken. However, that calculation does not establish the wallet’s current balance or the location of the remaining tokens. Additional transfers and wallet activity would need to be examined to determine where those assets are held today.

The latest 4,393 ETH deposit comes as Ethereum trades near $2,555, according to the supplied market report. At that price, the reported transfer represents a substantial amount of capital, although its value at the time of execution may differ from the quoted estimate.

Similar transfers from foundation-linked addresses reportedly appeared in May and August 2026, as well as in late 2025. The recurring pattern has drawn attention because large deposits to centralized exchanges can precede sales, even though they can also serve other purposes.

For ETH traders, the distinction between a transfer and a confirmed sale matters. Exchange inflows can influence sentiment when investors anticipate additional selling pressure, but they do not reveal the final execution price, whether an order was placed, or whether the funds remain untouched. The latest movement therefore adds to the questions surrounding the foundation’s treasury activity without providing a definitive answer.

Ethereum Foundation Treasury Policy Allows Planned ETH Sales

The Ethereum Foundation has previously explained that selling Ether is part of its treasury management strategy. Its June 2025 treasury policy says the organization periodically assesses how its fiat-denominated assets compare with its operating buffer target and determines how much ETH, if any, should be sold over the following three months.

The policy states that sales will typically use fiat off-ramps or on-chain swaps into fiat-denominated assets. This approach allows the foundation to fund its operations while managing its treasury rather than relying exclusively on holding ETH to cover expenses.

The same policy outlines a plan to reduce annual operating expenditure roughly linearly over five years, eventually reaching a long-term baseline of 5%. The planned spending reduction provides additional context for understanding how the organization intends to manage its resources over time.

The foundation has also disclosed previous conversion plans. In September 2025, it announced an intention to convert 10,000 ETH through centralized exchanges over several weeks. More recently, it reportedly converted 5,000 ETH into stablecoins using CoW DAO’s time-weighted average price feature.

For now, the reported 4,393 ETH deposit does not confirm a new sale or establish that the foundation has changed its treasury strategy. Traders will likely monitor official announcements, subsequent movements from the same addresses, and any evidence of completed exchange transactions. Until stronger confirmation emerges, the transfer is best understood as another development in the Ethereum Foundation’s broader treasury activity, not conclusive evidence of imminent selling.
