Meta Pushes Muse Beyond the Smartphone

Meta is expanding its personal AI agent Muse from phones and computers into wearable devices, giving users another way to interact with the system throughout the day. Mark Zuckerberg outlined the updates at Meta Connect 2026, where Meta also introduced new AI glasses, audio-only frames and additional wearable styles.

Zuckerberg said Muse can now support voice conversations and real-time video while working in the background. The idea is to allow users to continue a long conversation with the agent while Muse handles tasks without requiring constant attention from the user.

Meta first introduced Muse in September as a personal AI agent designed to do more than answer questions. The company says it can take actions across connected services, including tasks such as sending emails and booking travel, while users control which applications and permissions it can access.

At Connect, Meta extended that model to its AI glasses. Users will be able to access Muse while wearing compatible glasses, creating a hands-free interface in which requests can be made without reaching for a smartphone. Meta says the glasses will allow people to use Muse while managing daily activities, getting information and handling tasks.

Privacy is also becoming a bigger part of Meta’s wearable strategy. Zuckerberg said Meta is developing private processing for certain AI functions on the glasses so that the information involved cannot be accessed by Meta itself. Meta has separately said its Muse architecture is being developed around secure computing and user-controlled access.

The company is also expanding the range of physical devices around its AI platform. Meta previously said Muse would run through a dedicated secure virtual machine, while the Connect announcements show the company increasingly positioning the agent as an interface that can follow users across different devices.

New Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Expand the Hardware Lineup

Meta also announced Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first audio-only glasses. The camera-free frames weigh 43 grams and provide open-ear audio, calls and hands-free access to Meta’s AI assistant, with up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge. Preorders start at $349, with shipments scheduled for October 13.

The absence of a camera gives the Audio model a different position within Meta’s wearable lineup. Instead of combining photography and video with AI, the device focuses on audio, calls and voice interaction while retaining the familiar Ray-Ban form factor.

Meta is also releasing Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, with slimmer frames, longer battery life and a new customizable action button for direct access to Meta AI. The glasses offer up to nine hours of battery life, a six-microphone array and a 12-megapixel camera capable of recording 3K Ultra HD video. Prices start at $449.

Gen 3 is launching in three main styles, including Aviator, Zena and Wayfarer. Meta is also expanding its broader glasses collection through new designs, including collaborations with LISA and an additional Kylie Jenner colorway. The company expects to offer more than 100 AI glasses styles across Meta Glasses, Ray-Ban and Oakley by the end of the year.

Meta is also positioning its glasses as accessibility devices. Zuckerberg said Meta Glasses can now serve as FDA-cleared hearing aids for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, adding a medical-use case to hardware that is increasingly being marketed as an everyday computing device.

The wider Connect announcements show that Meta is pursuing several wearable categories at once. Alongside AI glasses, the company introduced Meta VR Glasses, a roughly 100-gram device designed for immersive entertainment, gaming and spatial computing, with a planned launch in spring 2027 at $1,299.99.

Taken together, the announcements show Meta trying to make AI less dependent on a traditional screen. Muse provides the software layer, while glasses provide a hands-free interface for accessing it throughout the day. Whether users adopt that model at scale will depend on factors including battery life, privacy, pricing, reliability and how useful the AI becomes in everyday situations.
