Pi Network Ventures has expanded its exposure to artificial intelligence and robotics after participating in a $12 million seed round for Axis Robotics. The San Francisco startup is building infrastructure designed to solve one of the biggest problems facing Physical AI: the shortage of diverse training data for robots.
The funding round was announced on July 27, 2026, and was led by Hack VC. Nomad Capital, 10K Ventures, Pi Network Ventures and angel investors also participated. Axis says the capital will support expansion of its data-generation infrastructure and contributor network.
Axis Robotics Targets the Physical AI Data Problem
Axis Robotics describes its platform as a compounding data engine for Physical AI. Its premise is that robots need far more varied human interaction data to operate reliably outside controlled laboratory environments.
The company combines simulated robot tasks with human contributions. People can control simulated robots through a browser, while a mobile application captures first-person human movement data. Axis then processes the information into datasets intended for robotics model training.
Its system includes procedural task generation, simulation data collection, mobile egocentric capture and automated data processing. The company says this creates a continuous loop in which model failures can generate additional training tasks and human corrections can become new data.
The scale is already notable for a startup founded in 2025. Axis says its network includes more than 100,000 contributors, while its website currently reports more than 5.5 million trajectories generated since launching on Base in March 2026.
Blockchain plays a supporting role in the model. Axis launched its platform on Base and uses the network to record data contributions and provide provenance for the resulting training information. That gives the project a direct connection between decentralized infrastructure and a non-financial application.
For Pi Network, the investment is particularly relevant because it follows the venture arm’s earlier move into robotics infrastructure. Pi Network Ventures announced an investment in OpenMind in October 2025, supporting a company developing software and protocols for robots to collaborate and operate across different environments.
Pi Network Ventures Builds a Broader AI Portfolio
The Axis investment shows that Pi Network Ventures is looking beyond projects that are exclusively focused on cryptocurrency. Its stated investment objectives include increasing Pi’s utility, bringing more real-world production onto Pi Network and supporting businesses that can create additional use cases for the ecosystem.
Axis does not represent a direct deployment of Pi technology, however. The startup’s current data infrastructure is built around Base, meaning the investment should be understood as a venture investment rather than evidence that Axis is moving its platform onto Pi.
That distinction matters for Pi users. Venture investments can create strategic relationships and exposure to emerging technologies, but they do not automatically translate into Pi utility, transaction activity or adoption.
Axis is targeting a market that could become increasingly important as robotics companies move from experimental systems toward larger-scale deployment. Training data is becoming a critical component of Physical AI, particularly when models must handle different environments, objects and robot designs.

The company says it is working with robotics and industrial companies including Booster Robotics, Manycore Tech, Feagine Robotics, Dexmal, Lotus and Geely Automobile. Its business model includes customized data packages for robotics hardware manufacturers, Physical AI companies and industrial automation firms.
Axis also has several development milestones ahead. The company has outlined continued expansion of its data-generation engine and contributor network, while its recent product development includes human-gated DAgger, where humans intervene when autonomous systems encounter important failures.
For Pi Network watchers, the bigger story is the direction of the venture portfolio. OpenMind and Axis both operate at the intersection of AI, robotics and decentralized infrastructure, suggesting that Pi Network Ventures is using its capital to gain exposure to technologies that could shape how machines, data and decentralized networks interact.
