Ripple and Robinhood Partner to Expand RLUSD Across 28.6 Million Funded Customers

Ripple

Ripple and Robinhood have announced a strategic partnership spanning stablecoins, institutional trading, treasury management and digital asset financing. Announced on October 27, 2026, the agreement will integrate Ripple’s infrastructure across several parts of Robinhood’s business, with RLUSD expected to play a central role in retail access and institutional settlement.

The partnership brings together Ripple’s blockchain-based financial services and Robinhood’s consumer trading platform, which serves 28.6 million funded customers globally. It also builds on the existing relationship between Ripple Prime and Bitstamp, the cryptocurrency exchange acquired by Robinhood, extending cooperation across liquidity, financing and market access.

Under the agreement, RLUSD is already available on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. The stablecoin is expected to become available in the Robinhood app later in 2026, while Robinhood plans to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for institutional settlement.

The announcement reflects a broader shift in how financial companies are approaching stablecoins. Rather than limiting their use to cryptocurrency trading, businesses are increasingly exploring their role in settlement, treasury operations and other financial activities.

RLUSD Expands Across Robinhood’s Retail and Institutional Businesses

RLUSD, Ripple’s US dollar-pegged stablecoin, will become a key component of Robinhood’s digital asset ecosystem. Ripple reported that the token had surpassed $2.4 billion in market capitalization since its launch in December 2024, giving it an established base as the companies work to expand its use.

The planned Robinhood app integration could broaden access to RLUSD among retail customers. However, the announcement did not specify an exact launch date for in-app availability, stating only that the stablecoin is expected to arrive later in the year.

For institutional markets, Robinhood plans to leverage RLUSD on XRPL for settlement. This would extend the stablecoin’s role within Bitstamp by Robinhood’s institutional business, where digital asset transactions and financing require infrastructure for moving value between market participants.

Stablecoins are designed to maintain a relatively stable value, typically by tracking a fiat currency such as the US dollar. Their potential uses include transferring funds, settling transactions and managing liquidity between trading venues. Their practical value depends on factors such as redemption arrangements, reserve management, regulatory compliance and market access.

The companies’ announcement comes as total stablecoin supply exceeds $300 billion, according to the figures cited by Ripple. That market growth has encouraged financial firms to consider stablecoins as infrastructure for moving money, rather than simply as trading instruments within crypto markets.

Nevertheless, wider availability does not automatically translate into higher transaction volumes or guaranteed demand for RLUSD. The impact will depend on customer adoption, institutional usage and the extent to which the stablecoin becomes integrated into everyday financial workflows.

Ripple Treasury and Ripple Prime Extend the Partnership

The agreement also covers Robinhood’s internal financial operations. Robinhood will integrate Ripple Treasury to modernize and automate its global treasury management, including cash and liquidity management, cash-flow forecasting, payments, risk management and intercompany netting.

Treasury management is important for companies operating across multiple markets because they must monitor available funds, forecast obligations and coordinate payments between business units. Integrating these processes into a unified system could help Robinhood manage its financial operations more efficiently, although the announcement did not disclose expected cost savings or implementation timelines.

The partnership further expands cooperation through Ripple Prime, Ripple’s institutional prime brokerage business. Ripple Prime already provides Bitstamp by Robinhood with lending and margin financing across roughly 20 digital assets, while Ripple Prime clients can access spot trading on Bitstamp.

Later in 2026, Ripple Prime is also expected to support perpetual futures trading on Bitstamp, adding another potential link between the companies’ institutional market operations. The announcement did not provide a specific launch date for this service.

Ripple President Monica Long said the partnership reflects demand for integrated financial solutions that support both customer-facing products and core business operations. Robinhood Crypto and International executive Johann Kerbrat similarly emphasized the role of practical utility in advancing stablecoin adoption.

For Ripple, the agreement expands the potential reach of RLUSD and its treasury and institutional services. For Robinhood, it creates a closer connection between retail crypto access, institutional settlement and internal financial management.

The broader significance lies in the range of functions covered by a single partnership. Whether the arrangement produces meaningful growth in RLUSD usage and institutional activity will depend on execution, customer adoption and the ability to connect these services into reliable financial workflows.
