Zcash token holders have officially voted to approve a $1.95 million retroactive grant proposal submitted by the Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL). The decision funds six months of intensive core protocol R&D, infrastructure upgrades, and critical security remediation efforts completed between January and June 2026.

The application—originally drafted for $818,438 to cover Q1 before being expanded to encompass Q2—passed as part of a major community-directed funding round in which ZEC holders approved 17 proposals.
Remediating Core Vulnerabilities and Advancing Protocol Specifications
The primary catalyst driving community support was ZODL’s intensive security intervention. Over the six-month period, the team triaged, patched, and deployed fixes for 10 major protocol vulnerabilities, including emergency remediation of a critical zero-knowledge circuit bug affecting the Orchard shielded pool.

Beyond critical hotfixes, ZODL’s key deliverables included:
- Protocol Security Upgrades: Merging 162 pull requests to harden node client codebase stability and consensus rules.
- Orchard Vulnerability Remediation: Coordinating emergency patches and network upgrades to safeguard user assets without on-chain disruption.
- Post-Quantum and Consensus R&D: Advancing protocol specifications to prepare Zcash’s privacy architecture against future cryptographic threats.
Community Governance in Action
The grant submission sparked active discussion within the Zcash governance forum, with community members commending ZODL for maintaining development momentum while handling a high volume of complex security reports.
