Zcash Social Volume Surges as Grayscale’s ZCSH ETF Announces 3-for-1 Split

Zcash is seeing a sharp increase in market attention as ZEC records a strong price move and Grayscale’s Zcash ETF prepares for a 3-for-1 share split. The developments put both the cryptocurrency and its newly expanded U.S. exchange-traded market exposure in focus.

According to Santiment, Zcash social volume reached its highest level in a month on September 17. X was responsible for much of the increase, with ZEC mentions running 6.8 times their 29-day baseline. Santiment said other platforms recorded roughly 1.7 times their normal activity.

ZEC Attention Becomes Concentrated on X

The shift made X account for approximately 85% of Zcash mentions on September 17, compared with about 59% on a typical day, according to Santiment. The data suggests that the increase in attention was unusually concentrated on a single platform rather than representing an evenly distributed rise across crypto communities.

Santiment also pointed to repeated posts involving what appeared to be whitelist applications. The posts reportedly used nearly identical wording while changing ticket numbers. That distinction matters because a higher social-volume reading does not automatically mean that a larger number of independent users are discussing an asset.

At the same time, ZEC recorded a significant market move. Santiment reported that the token closed roughly 10% higher on September 17 and gained approximately 32% between September 15 and September 17. The price increase therefore occurred alongside the unusual concentration of social activity.

The timing comes as institutional access to Zcash has expanded in the U.S. The Grayscale-built Zcash ETF, trading under the ticker ZCSH on NYSE Arca, announced on September 18 that it intends to conduct a 3-for-1 forward share split.

ZCSH Sets September 30 for Split Trading

Under the announced schedule, investors recorded as shareholders at the market close on September 28 will receive two additional shares for every share held. The additional shares are scheduled to be distributed after market close on September 29, with ZCSH expected to begin trading on a post-split basis before the September 30 market open.

The split does not increase the underlying value of an investor’s position. If an investor held 10 shares worth $300 each before the split, the resulting 30 shares would have an illustrative value of $100 each, leaving the total position at $3,000.

That distinction is important for Zcash investors because the corporate action concerns the ETF rather than ZEC itself. The number of ZCSH shares will rise while the NAV represented by each individual share falls proportionally. ZEC’s circulating supply is not changed by the ETF split.

The ETF development nevertheless adds another layer to Zcash’s market structure. Grayscale’s research describes Zcash as a proof-of-work digital currency with a maximum supply of 21 million coins and privacy features based on zero-knowledge cryptography.

Zcash’s recent institutional exposure has also been reflected in the growth of the fund. Grayscale reported on September 8 that ZCSH had surpassed $500 million in assets under management following its NYSE Arca debut, highlighting the level of demand for exchange-traded exposure to ZEC.

For ZEC traders, the more immediate issue is whether the recent price move can hold after the attention spike. Social volume can identify periods of unusual market interest, but the concentration on X and the repeated whitelist-style posts make it difficult to treat the increase as a clean measure of broad-based community adoption.

The combination of price gains, elevated social activity and growing ETF exposure gives Zcash an unusually active market backdrop heading into the final weeks of September. The 3-for-1 split itself is mechanically neutral to shareholder value, while the separate increase in trading attention and institutional access represents the more relevant development for the broader Zcash market.

ZEC therefore enters the next phase with two very different stories unfolding at once: a financial product adjusting its share structure and a cryptocurrency experiencing a surge in market attention. Whether that attention develops into broader participation remains a separate question, particularly after Santiment identified how heavily the latest social-volume increase was concentrated on X.
