Pi Network Updates KYC and Mainnet Migration to Unblock 900,000+ Pioneers

Pi Network has released a new batch of technical updates targeting problems that have prevented some Pioneers from completing KYC verification or migrating their Pi balances to Mainnet. The changes focus on specific edge cases rather than introducing a new KYC system.

According to Pi Network, more than 417,000 Pioneers affected by duplicate-account flags can now move forward after additional evaluations determined that they were not duplicates. These users must still complete any remaining KYC requirements before progressing fully.

Pi Addresses Major KYC Roadblocks

The duplicate-account issue is one of several cases that required additional technical review. Pi says different groups can become stuck for different reasons, meaning fixes are being developed and released in batches as specific problems are identified.

The latest update also changes how Pi handles the technical resources used by its KYC application. The network says improvements to machine-learning video processing and other automated verification processes are intended to reduce errors caused by high processing demands.

Some Pioneers who completed KYC through the earlier Yoti process can now resubmit their applications if missing liveness-check information prevented them from completing verification. Pi has also adjusted its liveness-check logic to support some older or lower-specification mobile devices.

Another change involves palm-print authentication. Pi is conducting a one-month trial for selected Pioneers who need multiple liveness checks, giving the network another method of verifying human participants without requiring a face image for that particular authentication step.

Pi has also opened a resubmission path for affected users in Indonesia whose KIA identification documents are no longer accepted for KYC. Those Pioneers can submit another supported identification document instead.

Mainnet Migration Gets a Separate Fix

The Mainnet migration side of the update addresses a different technical problem involving Fast-Track wallets. Some Pioneers received Mainnet wallets through that route, but later could not claim their migration balances because the wallets did not contain enough Pi to cover the required network gas fee.

Pi says a fix planned for deployment within the following week is expected to unblock approximately 497,000 Pioneers affected by this issue. The update will also reconcile the differences between the Fast-Track and standard KYC routes to reduce the possibility of the same problem affecting future migrations.

Taken together, the two largest groups identified by Pi represent more than 900,000 Pioneers, although they are affected by different technical issues. The figures should not be interpreted as 900,000 users receiving automatic Mainnet access, because the affected Pioneers still need to satisfy applicable verification and migration requirements.

The distinction is important for Pi’s Mainnet rollout. Pi’s own documentation says users need to pass KYC and migrate their eligible mobile balance before they can use that balance on Mainnet, while the network continues to operate under its broader phased development model.

The timing also comes as Pi continues making changes elsewhere in its ecosystem. Recent developer updates have added capabilities such as local storage for selected Pi Browser apps, app-specific staking data and file and video sharing, alongside new technical documentation for developers.

For Pioneers who have been waiting on KYC or migration, the practical step is to check the Pi KYC application and Mainnet checklist for newly available actions. Pi specifically encourages affected users to complete liveness checks when prompted, resubmit KYC where the option is available and retry claiming Pi if an earlier attempt failed because of insufficient gas funds.

The latest release does not mean Pi’s entire KYC and migration backlog has been resolved. Instead, it shows the Core Team continuing to address individual technical bottlenecks that can prevent otherwise eligible users from moving through the process. The next measure of progress will be how many additional Pioneers successfully complete migration after these fixes reach the affected groups.
