Shiba Inu remains under pressure as the broader meme coin sector struggles to regain momentum, with new on-chain data suggesting that the project’s long-term utility narrative still faces significant challenges.
Although recent announcements, including increased visibility through Japan’s Rakuten ecosystem, have generated community interest, blockchain activity tells a different story. Shibarium, the Layer-2 network built to expand Shiba Inu’s utility beyond its meme coin origins, is currently processing only a small number of daily transactions despite boasting millions of historical users and addresses.
The contrast has reignited debate over whether SHIB’s future price performance will depend more on another meme coin cycle than on fundamental ecosystem growth.
Shibarium Activity Remains Far Below Expectations
Shibarium was launched to give the Shiba Inu ecosystem real-world blockchain functionality by supporting decentralized applications, token transfers, and lower transaction costs. However, recent network statistics indicate that current usage remains modest.
The network is processing fewer than 1,000 daily transactions despite recording hundreds of millions of lifetime wallet addresses and more than one billion historical transactions. While cumulative metrics demonstrate previous activity, investors typically focus on sustained daily usage as a stronger indicator of network adoption.
The token burn mechanism also continues to have a limited impact on supply. Although periodic burn campaigns remove SHIB from circulation, the number of tokens destroyed remains extremely small relative to the circulating supply, meaning the deflationary effect has little influence on overall token economics.

Some community members have additionally questioned whether wallet growth accurately reflects genuine user adoption, arguing that automated contract-generated addresses may inflate holder statistics. While these claims remain debated, they highlight increasing investor attention on active network usage rather than headline figures.
For Shibarium’s utility narrative to strengthen meaningfully, daily transaction volumes would likely need to increase substantially and remain consistently elevated over time.
SHIB Still Moves With the Meme Coin Market
Despite concerns surrounding on-chain activity, Shiba Inu’s price has historically been influenced more by broader meme coin sentiment than ecosystem developments.
The token has closely tracked the performance of the wider meme coin sector during previous rallies and corrections. When investor appetite for speculative assets rises, SHIB often benefits alongside Dogecoin and other large meme tokens. Conversely, periods of declining market enthusiasm have typically weighed on SHIB regardless of project-specific announcements.
Recent market performance reflects that relationship. The broader meme coin sector has experienced a prolonged correction after reaching significantly higher valuations earlier in the year, limiting buying interest across the category.
From a technical perspective, Shiba Inu remains near long-term support levels after months of downward pressure. Several resistance zones overhead could become important if buying momentum returns, but current trading volumes and momentum indicators suggest investors remain cautious.

That does not necessarily eliminate the possibility of a recovery. Historically, meme coins have demonstrated the ability to rally sharply during periods of increased retail participation, often driven by improving market sentiment rather than fundamental developments. If capital begins rotating back into high-risk digital assets, SHIB could once again benefit alongside the broader sector.
However, without stronger Shibarium adoption or a significant improvement in ecosystem activity, sustainable price appreciation may prove difficult to achieve solely through project fundamentals.
For long-term investors, the key metrics to monitor remain active network usage, transaction growth, developer activity, and ecosystem expansion. While branding initiatives and exchange support continue to raise Shiba Inu’s visibility, meaningful increases in blockchain adoption would provide a stronger foundation for long-term value creation than short-lived speculative rallies alone.
As things stand, Shiba Inu appears to be at a crossroads. A renewed meme coin bull market could lift SHIB alongside its peers, but lasting strength will likely require evidence that Shibarium is evolving into an actively used blockchain rather than simply serving as an extension of the token’s already well-established brand.
